Briefs: New water tower studied
Wheeling is considering putting up another water tower -- this one to serve the village's northwest corridor. Trustee Dean Argiris said at a meeting this week that the tower could cost about $9 million. Coming development will put pressure on the village to update its infrastructure, he said, calling the tower "a major capital improvement project for the future of our village."
Pools staying open
For the first time in years, three of Arlington Heights Park District's neighborhood pools will be open daily through the Labor Day weekend. The additional hours and staffing is in response to Arlington Heights Elementary District 25's late start this school year. The district is completing construction on three buildings. With most of the lifeguards returning to high school and college, park district officials had to certify parents and other staff members as lifeguards to extend the hours. Recreation Pool will be open from 1 to 3:15 p.m. while Frontier and Heritage Park pools will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Normal weekend hours will continue as usual.
Bartlett OKs townhouses
The Bartlett village board approved a new residential development Tuesday known as Magnolia Place. The complex will consist of 122 townhouses in 22 buildings. The units will range from about 1,600 to 2,100 square feet. Magnolia Place will be built on 21 acres on the east side of Naperville Road, just north of the Metra line. Officials made sure the developers included decorative arbors, a park, playing field and tree preservation area in their plans.
