Couple hurt in Naperville wreck

An elderly couple was hospitalized Thursday after a semi truck sideswiped their Ford Explorer in Naperville.

Naperville Fire Battalion Chief Patrick Sleik said the couple, whose identities are not being released, turned left in front of the truck at Shore Road and Golfview Drive and were struck on the passenger side.

It took rescue crews 10 minutes to cut the couple from the vehicle, Sleik said.

Both were taken to Edward Hospital where they are being treated for internal injuries. The truck driver wasn't injured.

The woman reportedly was driving the Explorer and pulled out in front of the truck while trying to locate an address in the subdivision.

The truck was fully loaded with scrap steel when it hit the Explorer, Sleik said.

The speed limit at the intersection is 30 mph. Witnesses reported the truck driver was not speeding.

"Even though it wasn't his fault, the driver was very concerned about the people," Sleik said. "He acted quickly and possibly saved this couples' lives."
