Microcinema film fest offers independent, maximum-quality art for minimum dollars

The seventh annual International Microcinema Film Festival, sponsored by Theatre Nebula, will be held Sept. 6-9 at the Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 E. Wood St., Palatine. The event celebrates the growing community of independent artists with limited resources.

In 2004, founding organization REwind Video changed the festival's name from REwind International when they joined forces with fellow no-budget site MicrocinemaScene. The merger promoted and expanded the reach of the festival to represent the passionate work of those making movies without substantial financial backing.

Films selected for Microcinema Fest 7 are both short and feature-length movies, representing the genres of drama, comedy, sci-fi, horror, action, and documentary.

The films exhibited are the best from the Microcinema movement around the world. Screenings from New Zealand to Japan will be featured Sept. 6-8.

The event will feature three days of screenings, after parties at Furlong's at the Hotel Indigo, 920 E. Northwest Hwy., Palatine; a buffet dinner Saturday at Durty Nellie's, 180 N. Smith St., Palatine; and an awards brunch and wrapup Sept. 9 at Hotel Indigo.

Individual screening session tickets are $5 each. The full festival package is $59, including all films, food and activities from Sept. 6-9.
