Pardon for Ryan? Why not Blagojevich?

I am in complete agreement with Senator Dick Durbin that Rod Blagojevich should resign immediately. Senator Durbin should now take the next logical step and petition President Bush to issue a pardon for Blagojevich. This would not be unprecedented as President Ford issued a pardon for Nixon for any offenses Nixon committed in office.

Clearly such a request is in order given that Senator Durbin has requested a pardon for former Governor Ryan reasoning that Ryan has suffered enough and nothing is gained by keeping him in prison.

The consequences of Blagojevich's corruption only involve money while the consequences of Ryan's corruption were the deaths of six children and untold others involved in accidents with truck drivers who paid bribes to get their licenses. By Sen. Durbin's standards, Blagojevich has already suffered a lot, he's going to lose his job, and taxpayers gain by saving a lot of money by not having to try him.
