Despite economy, Rohrman auto mall still on track

Auto crisis? What auto crisis?

Despite the crumbling automobile industry, Bob Rohrman is still planning to finish building its $100 million auto mall in Arlington Heights, said Mark Battista, Rohrman's director of governmental affairs.

"Phase one is already complete, the Nissan store is open and doing very well," he said. "Despite what is happening on Wall Street, Rohrman is stable. You're talking about a guy who's been at the controls for 50 years. He's been through tough times before."

The 50-acre auto mall is expected to employ more than 500 people and have 3,256 parking spaces.

In October 2007, the Arlington Heights village board approved the plan at the northwest corner of Dundee Road and Kennicott Avenue. The mall will eventually include Arlington Lexus, 1285 E. Dundee Road in Palatine; Arlington Dodge in Palatine, 1400 E. Dundee Road in Palatine; and Arlington Chrysler Jeep, 925 W. Dundee Road in Buffalo Grove. Plans also include a spot for another dealership to open sometime in the future.

The Lexus dealership is under construction and should be open this summer, Battista said.

All of the dealerships should be relocated and open within two years.
