United Express landing gear fails, no injuries

The left landing gear failed on a United Express flight from Chicago to South Bend, forcing the aircraft to turn back to O'Hare International Airport.

United spokeswoman Megan McCarthy said early Tuesday that no one was injured when the flight left Chicago late Monday. McCarthy says United Express flight 7164 operated by Mesa Airlines had to turn around shortly after take off when its landing gear indicator light alerted.

She says the aircraft landed safely but, "it did not come to rest on all of its wheels."

There were 28 passengers on board, not including two pilots and two flight attendants. McCarthy says all passengers were accommodated on another flight to South Bend.
