R & B singer's nephew charged in robbery
R & B singer R. Kelly's nephew has been indicted for allegedly shooting a barbershop owner during a failed robbery in a south Chicago suburb.
Prosecutors in Cook County say 16-year-old Brayel Kelly of Calumet City faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm and attempted armed robbery.
Brayel is the son of R. Kelly's brother, Carey Kelly.
Police say Brayel Kelly went to a Calumet City barbershop on Nov. 6 and demanded the owner's jewelry and money. When the owner grabbed his own weapon, police say the suspect and victim fired at each other.
Police found Kelly nearby with a gunshot wound to the back.
A judge this week set bond at $200,000. An arraignment date is set for Dec. 23.
