Brookfield Zoo gorilla dies

The Brookfield Zoo says one of its lowland gorillas died this week.
The zoo said Friday the 47-year-old female gorilla named Beta died Thursday night.
Spokeswoman Sondra Katzen says it's not immediately known what killed the gorilla.
Zoo officials say Beta had been ailing and suffering from a number of chronic ailments. They say she lived for years in her own special enclosure at the zoo.
A necropsy is pending.
