High school basketball coach suspended after fight

BROOKHAVEN, Miss. -- Brookhaven High School boy's basketball coach Ronald Hines has been suspended indefinitely following a fight involving one of his players.

Authorities say the player, whose name was not released, was arrested after the Nov. 22 fight at the Brookhaven-Crystal Springs game. Kedria Lashaun Butler of Brookhaven, the player's mother, and a fan, Jervaros Shannon of Hazlehurst, were both charged with disturbing the peace.

Hines was not arrested, but Brookhaven Superintendent of Education Lee Barrett met with Hines Monday and made the decision to suspend him. Barrett would not give a reason for the suspension. She said it was a personnel matter.

Hines said he was shocked by the suspension and will consider legal action.
