Indiana prison escapee arrested in Chicago
Authorities say Sarah Pender, a convicted murderer who escaped from Indiana's Rockville Correctional Center in August, has been apprehended in Chicago.
News of the arrest was reported early Sunday by WTHI-TV in Rockville, Ind., and later confirmed by Officer John Henry of the Chicago Police Department's News Affairs office, who said details were not immediately available.
Pender, 29, being held early Sunday at the Cook County Jail.
Pender was convicted along with former Noblesville High School football star Richard "Rick" Hull Jr. in the 2000 slayings of two former roommates.
Pender received a 110-year sentence and Hull was sentenced to 75 years.
She escaped from the medium-security prison 50 miles west of Indianapolis on Aug. 4, allegedly with the aid Scott Spitler Sr., who was then a guard at the prison, and an Indianapolis woman named Jamie Long.
Authorities arrested Spitler Aug. 6 and apprehended Long, 42, at her home the following day. Both were charged with aiding an escape.
Authorities said Spitler, who reportedly had a sexual relationship with Pender, hid her a state prison vehicle and drove her out of prison grounds. They said that once outside, Long picked up the escaped convict in her car.
