Midwest Museum cleans up after pipes burst

The Midwest Museum of Natural History in Sycamore is back in business, a little over a week after minor flooding caused by burst pipes.

The northern Illinois museum has been closed since fire sprinkler pipes over the gift shop and lobby froze and burst causing at least $5,000 in damage.

Executive Director Chris Brodnicki says the flooding was contained and none of the museum's displays were affected.

The museum opened its doors in February 2004. It houses a collection of preserved mammals, reptiles and birds from around the world.

The museum reopened Tuesday, but Brodnicki says it will likely close again for a short time in February so repairs and upgrades can be made to the fire sprinkler and heating systems.
