Mundelein on board with CN
Mundelein reached an agreement with CN Tuesday involving the Canadian railway's plan to move freights onto the less crowded EJ&E line. Federal regulators have yet to rule on the proposed merger of the two railroads, which has split the region. Towns along the "J" oppose added train traffic while those that would benefit by CN moving freights off its lines in Chicago and nearby suburbs support the plan. The agreement between the two entities requires CN to help maintain quiet zones in Mundelein and take steps to get trains through the town expeditiously. Other provisions involve improvements to safety, communications and Metra access. Meanwhile, a group of federal lawmakers met with officials from the U.S. Surface Transportation Board, the agency that will decide the merger, to discuss an environmental report released Friday.
