Student involvement inspires hope

I am fortunate, as a teacher in District 211, that I am able to witness the truly awesome nature of the young adults in this community.

There are times that I feel the need to make sure I do everything I can to share just how impressive these young people are. During the last election cycle the passion that I witnessed for the democratic process is like nothing I have ever seen.

There were students working for candidates from both parties and in both local and national elections. Everyday it was a new story or question as our students watched debates, asked questions, or knocked on doors for candidates.

I have had the opportunity to travel to many places throughout the world and have always felt a deep sense of patriotism. It was watching these young people get involved (many for the first time) in a process that so much of the world has no experience with that filled me with a pride I have rarely felt. These young people are the future of our democracy and it is truly an honor to be able to work with them everyday and see a glimpse of how bright our future will be.

Finally, I want to sincerely thank parents and families that have helped nurture and grow such fine young people. District 211 has a great deal to be proud of, but at the foundation is the absolutely amazing students that walk through our halls every day.
