Deserving household sought for heating, cooling makeover
Batavia business owner Tom Wangler is looking to ring in the new year by changing someone's life again.
This week, Wangler's Confident Aire Inc. announced its Second Annual Ultimate Energy Transformation - a charity project that rewards one deserving local household with a new furnace, air filtration system and other heating and cooling services free of charge.
Nominations currently are being sought through area churches, with a winner to be announced by Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke on New Year's Eve.
"It's good to be able to do this," Wangler said, referring to the state of the economy. "People still have needs out there, especially with what we do. It has to be fixed when it's broken."
Wangler said he started the program as a way to thank the community for supporting his business and also to promote energy conservation. The package includes duct cleaning and sealing work and environmental tests, both shown to reduce energy consumption and costs.
Earlier this year, a struggling Batavia family with two ill children received about $10,000 in new equipment and services after being nominated for the inaugural project by Holy Cross Church. This time, Wangler is throwing in free home furnace safety inspections for the top three runners-up.
"I wanted to kick it up a notch," he said.
