$1 million bond in Barrington Hills home invasion
A Cook County judge set bond at $1 million Monday for Kuhn Kim, charged with Friday's Barrington Hills home invasion in which a 60-year-old female victim was struck with a handgun.
At the morning hearing in a Rolling Meadows courtroom, Judge Joseph Urso also imposed special bond conditions on Kim, who lives on the 1600 block of Sheridan Road in Wilmette. The conditions include a curfew and a no-contact order.
Police said Kim, 23, took various items in the robbery, then stole a Jaguar from the residence and ditched it in the parking lot of a nearby Presbyterian Church where he had previously left his own car. The victim who was struck during the robbery was later treated at a hospital and released, authorities said.
Barrington Hills police apprehended Kim about 90 minutes after the incident, said Sgt. Ron Riedel, adding that police may file additional charges. Besides the car, they recovered a laptop and an engraved pocket knife but not the gun, said assistant state's attorney Kristin Piper.
At the bond hearing, Kim's defense attorney indicated that his client "has some psychiatric issues."
He next appears in court at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 9 in Rolling Meadows.
