Police beat
St. Charles
• A gate enclosing trash receptacles in a parking lot on the 400 block of Dunham Road was damaged between Dec. 12 and 15. A metal post was removed from the gate, along with two pieces of wood. The post was flung into a retention pond. Damages are estimated at about $400, according to a police report.
• The front and rear license plates were stolen from a 1997 Mazda Miata while it was parked in the St. Charles parking garage on the 200 block of Walnut Avenue sometime between Dec. 5 and 7, according to police.
• A black wallet and a black Samsung camera cell phone in a black case were stolen from an unlocked car parked on the 1900 block of Cambridge Drive sometime between Dec. 9 and 10, according to a police report. The phone has an approximate value of $100.
• Julie Anne Brungard, 41, of the 0-100 block of White Oak Circle, was arrested Dec. 17 and charged with causing damage to parked cars during a hit and run incident, police said. Brungard denied causing any damage when police confronted her with photos of tire tracks and scratches to a vehicle more than two feet in length.
• Mairin Hernandez-Martinez, 30, of 416 Stimmel, West Chicago, was arrested Dec. 19 and charged with retail theft after stealing a bottle of Lacoste Cologne and a purple dress with a total value of about $82 from Kohl's department store, police said. Store security reported they also found Hernandez-Martinez in possession of several sweaters, shirts, jackets and pants that had the price tags switched on them to show the items were on clearance when, in fact, they were not clearance items.
• A house key and a black iPod Shuffle were stolen from an upstairs bedroom in a home in the 1500 block of Independence Court Dec. 20, according to police.
• David Joseph Melville, 42, of 712 S. Third St., was arrested Dec. 20 and charged with assault and resisting a peace officer after police arrived at the residence to find Melville on top of another male on the floor fighting. The police report indicated Melville resisted officers when they tried to arrest him, so police shot him with a Taser gun in his rear thigh. Melville was then handcuffed, but broke free from police once outside only to slip on a patch of ice and hit his head on the steps at least twice. Medics called to assist found Melville unable to answer simple questions and disoriented about where he was, so Melville was taken to a hospital.
Kane County
• James M. Palmer, 36, of the 900 block of Cookane Avenue, Elgin, was arrested at 9:16 a.m. Wednesday and charged with drunken driving, improper lane usage and driving without insurance after a two-vehicle crash on Route 20 east of Marshall Road in Plato Township, police said. Seven people, including Palmer and six passengers in the other vehicle, were taken to Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva. Palmer told police the accident happened when he hit a patch of ice and slid into the oncoming lane.
• A window valued at $350 was reported damaged by a projectile Saturday on the 38W600 block of Callighan Place, Geneva Township.
• A burglary attempt was reported Friday at American Science and Surplus, 33W361 Route 38, Geneva Township, after a door was forced open.
• Nancy Perez, 36, of the 1400 block of Superior Street, Aurora, was arrested at 11:21 p.m. Sunday and charged with marijuana possession, drug paraphernalia possession and illegal transportation of alcohol by a passenger during a traffic stop at Galena Boulevard and Route 25 in Aurora Township, police said. Driver Jose Ramon Mercado, 33, of the 38W800 block of South James Drive, St. Charles, was cited for driving while license suspended and no functioning turn signal.
• A vehicle mirror, windshield and hood were damaged by ice and snow that fell off a truck about 9 a.m. Dec. 23 on Keslinger Road in Blackberry Township. Damage was estimated at $1,000.
• A snowmobile caught fire about 10:25 a.m. Thursday at Silver Glen and Old Homestead roads in St. Charles Township. No injuries were reported.
Batavia
• A duck house was taken from a yard in the 400 block of Pine Street, it was reported to police Monday.
• Someone smashed the front door, entered and took $100 in change and four remote controls from a residence in the 0-99 block of South Prairie Street, it was reported to police at 2:16 p.m. Saturday.
• A PlayStation 3 and a PlayStation 2 game consoles, games for both, a DVD player and DVD movies were stolen when an apartment was burglarized, it was reported to police at 10:16 p.m. Dec. 24. The front door of the apartment, in the 1300 block of East Wilson Street, was found open, and a patio door ajar.
• A snowblower was reported stolen, at 7:10 p.m. Dec. 23 in the 700 block of Carlisle Road, according to police.
• A resident of the 100 block of Lootens was defrauded of $125,000 by people posing as Federal Bureau of Investigations agents, it was reported at 10:41 a.m. Dec. 26, according to police, who provided no further details.
Geneva
• Someone tried to break into Dominick's, 2000 S. Randall Road, by prying apart a delivery door on the rear of the store, between 11:59 p.m. Dec. 23 and 6 a.m. Dec. 24, according to a police report.
