Sentencing for Rezko could be delayed

A federal judge presiding over convicted political fundraiser Tony Rezko's sentencing has canceled court filing deadlines and set a hearing for next week.

The move could mean Rezko's sentencing is delayed past its original Jan. 6 date.

Rezko, a former fundraiser for Gov. Rod Blagojevich and President-elect Barack Obama, was convicted in June of using his connections in the governor's office to squeeze payoffs from companies seeking state business.

Last month, he asked for a sentencing date, saying his incarceration at Chicago's Metropolitan Correctional Center was difficult.

The complaint charging Blagojevich this week revealed Rezko was cooperating with prosecutors in hopes of winning a lighter sentence. It alleges the 53-year-old Rezko shared information that broadly incriminates the governor "in a 'pay to play' criminal scheme."
