Man charged in Chicago police officer shooting
An 18-year-old man faces charges for allegedly shooting and injuring a Chicago police officer on the city's northwest side.
A Chicago police spokesman says Juan Romero of Chicago was charged on Friday with attempted murder and resisting and obstructing a police officer.
Police say the officer was shot in the shoulder late Thursday evening. The officer was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and reported in stable condition.
Police say the officers returned fire and Romero was also injured. He was taken to the same hospital for a leg wound.
Police didn't release the officer's name.
Authorities say a weapon was recovered at the scene of the shooting.
Chicago police spokesman John Mirabelli says the Independent Police Review Authority will investigate.
