Marino Orlandi was promoted to vice president and retail regional manager for Fifth Third Bank's Crossroads region. Orlandi, who has more than nine years of banking experience, most recently served as vice president of business banking for Fifth Third.
Dan Broederdorf joined Hoffman Estates Community Bank as a residential loan specialist, responsible for building relationships with community realtors and builders, as well as servicing the greater Hoffman Estates area with home mortgage services.
Schaumburg-based Assurance Agency, Ltd., announced the addition of Liz Renius Smith as executive vice president, employee benefits practice leader. Smith will take over for Jackie Gould, who will become Assurance's chief operating officer.

Harry L. Walder Jr. has joined Leopardo Companies Inc., Hoffman Estates, as vice president. Walder joined Leopardo from Walsh Construction, where he served as vice president and business group manager. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a registered professional engineer and a trustee in the village of Lincolnshire.
The Building Owners and Managers Association of Suburban Chicago honored Bruce Larson, director of facility services for Coventry Health Care, as Member of the Year; Jan Wemple of Moore Landscapes Inc., as Associate Member of the Year; and Phil John, chief engineer for CB Richard Ellis, Schaumburg, as Engineer of the Year.
Carlton C. Brown of Aurora was named Aurora University's first career and internship adviser. Brown, who is part of the university's Crouse Center for Student Success, assists with developing internships with local organizations and placing students in internships. He holds a bachelor's degree in history from Central State University, Wilberforce, Ohio, and a master's in college-student personnel from Miami University of Oxford, Ohio.
