Man charged with having sex with teen

Police say an Elgin man was jailed Wednesday after he admitted he had sex numerous times over the past year with an Elgin boy who is now 16 years old.

Alejandro Velazquez, 30, of 317 DuPage St. Apt. A, was charged in court Thursday with two felony counts of criminal sexual abuse, according to court reports.

The charges were approved by the Kane County State's Attorney's Office after investigations by both the Kane County Child Advocacy Center and Elgin police.

According to court records, the boy told investigators Velazquez came to him and said he was a friend of a family member and that the sexual contact continued over the past year in cars, hotels and homes in Kane County.

In a written statement to police, Velasquez admitted having the encounters with the boy. He also said he is not a U.S. citizen and is not in the country legally.

In court on Thursday, Velazquez said through an interpreter, "I just want to say I committed an error. How much is the fine? I only have one job. There is no way for me to get out (of jail)."

The bond for Velazquez was set at $7,000.

He was unable to post bond and was taken to the Kane County jail Thursday morning.

Elgin police said it is likely that a hold will be placed on him at the jail by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Velazquez is scheduled to appear in court again on Dec. 18 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
