Another Naperville candidate tosses hat in ring

Another Naperville resident is making a run for a city council seat.

James DerKacy filed paperwork Thursday for one of four 4-year terms that will be on the April 7 ballot.

That means 10 candidates are now seeking 4-year terms. Another two want the open 2-year seat being vacated by Darlene Senger who was recently elected to the state legislature.

DerKacy could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Other candidates for the 4-year term are incumbents Douglas Krause and Kenn Miller and newcomers Joe McElroy, Charles Schneider, Judith Brodhead, Ken Bochenski, Patty Gustin, Paul Hinterlong and Kamala Martinez.

Councilman James Boyajian, whose own 4-year term is expiring, and Bill Eagan are running to fill the remaining two years of Senger's term.

John Rosanova is the only incumbent whose term expires this spring not running to retain his seat.

Thirty-seven nomination packets have been picked up, though a few candidates picked up more than one. Residents have until 5 p.m. Dec. 15 to turn in their paperwork to secure a place on the ballot.

If 17 or more file to run for the full terms, there will be a primary on Feb. 24 to narrow the field to 16. Five or more candidates for the partial term also would force a primary for that seat to narrow the field to four.
