Suspect in custody after Carpentersville armed robbery
A suspect is in custody after an armed robbery Monday morning at the Shell station at Route 25 and Kings Road in Carpentersville, police said.
Police said they responded at 5:44 a.m. and the attendant provided officers with a description of the suspect and the direction in which he fled.
Police found a man matching the description of the robber just minutes later walking near Kinds Road and Skyline Drive. When officers confronted him, the man ran and officers from several law enforcement agencies established a perimeter.
Officers, assisted by a police dog, found the suspect in the backyard of a residence on the 200 block of Skyline.
Police said items believed to have been taken from the gas station and connected to the armed robbery were found in the area where the suspect was taken into custody.
Both Sky Line and Kings Road were temporary closed to traffic during the search and several area schools were alerted.
The investigation is ongoing and police said they will release more information when it becomes available.
