Seven injured in Des Plaines accident

Seven people were taken to four hospitals following an accident Monday morning at Algonquin and River roads in Des Plaines, Fire Chief Randy Jaeger said.

Only one of the injuries appeared major, he said. Two people each were taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Resurrection Hospital in Chicago, Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights and one was taken to Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview.

Six people were in one vehicle and one was in the other, the fire chief said. Ambulances from four other departments assisted at the scene.

The accident was one of more than 10 reported Monday morning due to icy conditions, Jaeger said.

The chief reminded drivers to slow down during bad weather and to use extreme caution when approaching an area where emergency workers and vehicles are present.
