Another suburb reaches deal with CN

Suburban Frankfort has joined the growing list of communities to make a deal with the company vying to buy the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway.

Canadian National has agreed to spend more than $3.1 million on noise prevention and safety measures in the village.

The company is seeking approval from a federal board for the $300 million purchase. Some Chicago and northwest Indiana suburbs worry it would triple rail traffic.

But communities including Hoffman Estates, Mundelein, Chicago Heights, Joliet and Crest Hill in Illinois and Dyer in Indiana have already reached agreements with Canadian National.

Frankfort announced the agreement Monday.
