Chicago firefighters battle meat plant fire

CHICAGO -- Chicago firefighters contained an extra alarm fire at a South Side meat-processing plant.

No injuries were reported Thursday.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Jose Santiago says a hazardous materials team was called because authorities were worried about chemicals like ammonia and hydrogen in the building.

The Chicago Fire Department received a call before noon about the fire at the brick structure.

At least five fire trucks were at the plant and the building appeared to be badly damaged.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford says some of the walls collapsed.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
