Tow truck driver arrested after fatal wreck
GRANITE CITY -- Authorities say a man was killed and a child injured after their vehicle was rammed from behind in southwestern Illinois by a tow truck driver that allegedly then fled the scene.
Investigators of the crash early Friday have not yet released the names of the victims or the tow truck driver, who was later arrested.
Police say the driver of the SUV had pulled off along the road, perhaps after running out of gas, when that vehicle was hit by the tow truck.
Investigators say the impact pushed the SUV about 300 feet down the road.
The child, who was strapped in a car seat, was hospitalized in St. Louis in serious condition.
Madison County prosecutors are reviewing the case.
