Poplar Grove man charged with sex abuse

A 32-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after he admitted fondling a 13-year-old girl in an apartment on the 100 block of Franklin Boulevard on Oct. 5, Elgin police said.

Alvaro Madera, of the 100 block of Redman Way SW, Poplar Grove, is charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, police said.

If Madera is convicted he could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison.

Reports indicate that in the early morning hours of Oct. 5, a woman called police after she saw a man she identified as Madera running out the back door of the apartment building in which she lives.

Police interviewed a 13-year-old girl who lived in one of the apartments, and she admitted the pair had touched each other in inappropriate places sometime between midnight and 2 a.m., according to reports.

Elgin police then turned the case over to the Kane County Child Advocacy Center, which determined there was sufficient evidence to charge Madera.

Kane County Assistant State's Attorney Greg Walker asked for a high bond at Thursday's hearing because, he said, Madera has no permanent address in the United States and poses a flight risk.

Madera was unable to post a bond of 10 percent of $100,000 and was taken to the Kane County jail.

He is scheduled to appear in court again Nov. 19 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
