Funeral services set for Burlington crash victims

Visitations will begin Monday for the four teenagers killed in a fiery, head-on car collision over the weekend in unincorporated Burlington Township.

Details on what caused the accident remain murky, but some of the answers should come this week, officials said Sunday.

Kane County Coroner Chuck West already performed autopsies on the four victims but declined to release the results before speaking with the teens' family members. He is expected to detail the findings this morning.

"It's a very tragic accident," West said. "The fact that the cars were on fire made it very difficult for everybody to investigate."

Police say drugs or alcohol, or possibly both, likely played a role in the crash, a notion West confirmed Sunday.

He has ordered toxicology tests -- which will detail what was in the men's systems at the time of death -- on all four victims. The results won't be ready for at least three weeks.

Police say the accident occurred about 1 a.m. Saturday when Erick Silva, 18, of Streamwood crossed the center line at Burlington and Plato roads in his 2003 Pontiac Grand Am and struck a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix head-on, according to initial investigations.

The impact caused the Grand Prix to catch fire.

Silva died after being flown to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

The three other teens involved were pronounced dead at the scene, including the two passengers in the Grand Am, Christian Miguel Godoy-Olvea, 19, and Andres Solis, 19, both of Streamwood, and the driver of the Grand Prix, Marco Leon, 19, of Elgin.

Police don't know yet how fast Silva was driving.

Leon's mother, Yolanda, said her son was heading to a friend's house after finishing his shift at Domino's Pizza in South Elgin. He was a nursing student at Elgin Community College.

Solis graduated from Streamwood High School in May and was working two jobs to save up for college.

Three of the teens will have services at the Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, 1640 S. Green Meadows Blvd., in Streamwood.

Visitation for Leon begins at 3 p.m. today with services at 7 p.m. at the Streamwood funeral home.

Silva's visitation starts at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. His services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ansgar Roman Catholic Church in Hanover Park.

Visitation for Solis begins at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. His services are Wednesday at noon and will be held at St. Ansgar Church.

Visitation for Godoy-Olvea has been set for 9:30 a.m. Friday at Brust Funeral Home, 415 N. Gary Ave. in Carol Stream, followed by the funeral at 11:30 a.m. at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 427 W. Army Trail Road, Bloomingdale.
