Work with others but stay the leader

President-elect Obama is a transnational (citizen of the world) politician. One of his objectives will be to devise more inclusive forms of global governance. This transnationalism is designed to provide political authorities the authority to move above and beyond American constitutional democracy to be more aligned with the democracies of the world. An Obama administration would work toward to positions of global governance, international law, shared sovereignty and international norms.

Internationalism meant/means American leadership, working with other nations to create international organizations to promote peace and collective security.

A transnational Obama administration would work toward a system of global laws and treaties that would, in some instances, abrogate protections we as citizens of the United States currently enjoy under our Constitution. One of the cornerstones of transnationalism is the International Criminal Court. If enacted a U.S. soldier could be charged with a war crime and made subject to the court's final jurisdiction, thus superseding our Constitution, leaving the soldier to fend for himself. The ICC would be headquartered in The Hague, thus open to the prevailing European political climate of the day.

We are citizens of the world (transnationalists lite) but also citizens of The United States of America that remains the beacon of hope, justice and stability in the world. A country the rest of the democratized world looks to for their security and leadership. We are internationalists. And the world is a better place for it. Collectivism maybe a tenet of a "go along-get along" world but it is no substitute for a strong, independent U.S. world stewardship.
