Morning snow gone by rush hour

Rescue and police crews spent the morning scrambling through the north and west suburbs tending to minor accidents due to slick roads from the wet snowfall.

No major accidents were reported, but officials warned the minor fender benders caused by the wet snow caused traffic congestion throughout most major roads in Lake and northern Cook counties.

Officials reported minor accidents near Antioch, Fox Lake, Spring Grove, Mundelein, Gurnee, Lake Zurich and Wauconda.

Meteorologists from the National Weather Service said about 1 inch of snow hit the ground before the snowfall ended at about 9:30 a.m.

That snow is expected to melt today as temperatures are expected to reach 35 degrees by midday.
