West Dundee marked Veterans Day well

Nov. 11, Veterans Day, was a day to remember in Dundee because we had such a good turnout of West Dundee village officials for the VFW's Veterans Day salute to all living veterans.

This salute is scheduled every year at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the flagpole at the VFW Post 2298, 117 S. First St., West Dundee.

Village Mayor Larry Keller, Village Administrator Joe Cavallero, Police Chief Dave Sawyer and Fire Chief Frank Buhrmann all spoke about the meaning of the day. Also speaking was Bob McMahon on behalf of the veterans and Jessie Gospodarek, a representative of the VFW Post 2298 Auxiliary.

Paul Hardt spoke on behalf of all the teachers in District 300. Hardt told us about the programs that are presented to and by the schools on behalf of veterans.

Mary Holtz and Commander Pete Dawidziak laid a wreath at the flagpole.

A student from Dundee-Crown played taps.

We are just sorry that others in the Dundee community missed this opportunity to honor those who served our country.

Patrick Green

Immediate Past Commander, VFW Post 2298

West Dundee
