Voters will choose Round Lake Beach clerk

Round Lake Beach voters decided Tuesday the village clerk should continue to be elected every four years instead of being appointed by the village board.

With ballots in 18 of 18 precincts and early votes counted, unofficial results showed 3,947 people voted to continue to elect the clerk while 3,106 voted the change for the clerk to be appointed. Totals do not include absentee or provisional ballots.

Mayor Rich Hill said he does not understand why voters did not approve the change but said it may be they don't understand the clerk's position, which is record keeping or did not read materials that explained this question.

"I don't know why they would vote it down. It's an easy yes vote," he said.

Hill said the board decided in July to put the clerk position on the ballot because board members felt the position is more of an administrative position rather than an elected position.
