Deadline nears to register for flood aid

Federal officials say the deadline to apply for disaster relief following September flooding and storms is approaching.

Nine Illinois countries have until Dec. 16 to apply for assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The counties are Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, LaSalle, Peoria, Will and Woodford.

A FEMA spokeswoman says people affected by the storms and flooding should apply even if they have insurance.

The money will help cover rental payments for temporary housing, grants for home repairs, and low-interest loans for homeowners and renters.
