Hoffman Estates man dies two days after car crash

An autopsy will be performed today on a Hoffman Estates man who died Sunday, two days after a nasty auto wreck on the Tri-State Tollway.

Jason Desens, 33, of the 1600 block of Pebble Beach Drive, died about 1:45 a.m. Sunday at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, said Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Frank Gutierrez.

Shortly after midnight Friday, police say Desens' Saturn crashed into the rear of a white GMC tow truck in the right lane of southbound I-294 near Lake-Cook Road, Gutierrez said. Rescue crews extricated Desens from his car and paramedics rushed him into the hospital, Gutierrez said. The two people inside the tow truck didn't require medical attention.

The initial police report from Friday indicated alcohol as a suspected cause, stating Desens was to be charged with DUI, Gutierrez confirmed. Toxicology tests would take weeks, however an autopsy will be performed today, said a Cook County medical examiner's office spokesman.
