Long Grove ballot question examined

Long Grove officials on Tuesday defended a tax increment financing district that voters largely voted down last week. Although the district is already in place, a citizen referendum was put on the ballot. Village President Maria Rodriguez said the language was confusing and seemed to indicate another future TIF. Geoff Wilson, a resident present at the board meeting, said the question confused him and that he was happy with the construction of Sunset Foods that is tied in with the TIF. However, many residents have pointed out that the question was voted down on the ballot by a 2-to-1 margin, indicating that the board is not doing what the community wants.
