Briefs: Charity rummage sale

The Salvation Army in St. Charles will have a rummage sale to support international services Saturday. The sale is planned for 8 a.m. to noon at the Joe K. Anderson Community Center, 1710 S. Seventh Ave. For more information, or to inquire about renting a table, call (630) 377-2769.

Easter Seals elects chairman:

Margaret Resce Milkint of Hinsdale has been elected chairman of the board of directors of Easter Seals DuPage and Fox Valley Region. Milkint has served on the Easter Seals board since 2000. She is the managing partner of The Jacobson Group based in Chicago, a provider of professional and human capital services to the insurance, health-care and financial services industries.

Family Reading Night

The Kane County Law Library and Self-Help Legal Center will have its 11th Annual Family Reading Night from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Kane County Judicial Center, 37W777 Route 38, St. Charles. Judges William Brady, Kevin Busch and Tom Stanfa will read bedtime stories at the free pajama-style party, which is for children through 2nd grade. Participants also can tour a courtroom and sit in a judge's chair. Youngsters must be accompanied by an adult. Call (630) 406-7126.

Book sale aids reading program

An online Usborne book sale is being conducted at ubah.com/BF26229 to benefit Literacy in Families Empowers. This 10-week program has been held at various Batavia public schools over the past five years to help first grade readers who are reading below grade level. All commission earned on purchases will be donated back to the program. To purchase books directly for the program, you can shop from LIFE's Wish List, which can be found on the Web page as well.
