Skinner sparkles in Judson debut

Playing in his first collegiate games for Judson University, freshman Landon Skinner was named the NCCAA National Player of the Week for men's basketball.

Skinner averaged 27.5 points per game in his first two games for Judson. Skinner, receiving his first start in his first game at Judson, had a career-high 28 points in a 79-77 loss against Mt. Mercy. He scored 21 of his 28 points in the second half and made 80 percent of his free throws and 54 percent of his shots from the floor. In the game against William Woods, Skinner collected 27 points and shot 55 percent overall. He scored 19 of his 27 points in the first half helped Judson to as large as a 20-point lead.

Edwards bombs away: In only his third game at Judson, freshman Josh Edwards erupted for a career-high 36 points, making eight 3-pointers en route to a 112-100 win over Ashford University (2-1) in the home opener at the Lindner Fitness Center on Tuesday. Judson had as large as a 25-point lead in the second half.

For the third game in a row, Skinner had 20 or more points, finishing with 24. Edwards also had 9 assists and went 4 of 4 from the foul line. Overall, Judson had five players in double figures followed by Dovydas Retkus (Lithuania) with 16 and Josh Weber and Ben Rayhorn each adding 10.

Silva named NCCAA Player of the Week: For the second time this season, Judson University has received the NCCAA (National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association) National Player of the Week for men's soccer. Gaining the award this week is senior Leonardo Silva (Brazil). Petar Bajic (Serbia) received the award on Sept. 2.

Silva had one of his finest weeks in his career at Judson as he collected 3 goals and had 1 assist helping guide Judson to its fifth straight CCAC Tournament championship. He netted both goals in a 2-1 overtime win over Cardinal Stritch and then gave Judson a security goal in a 3-1 win over Illinois Tech in the CCAC Championship match.
