Huntley says no to library addition

Huntley voters have said no when it comes to raising their taxes to build an expansion for the Huntley Area Library.

According to unofficial results, 10,684 voters decided to hang onto their money, while 7,426 voters didn't mind sharing.

The Huntley Library District asked voters if it could issue $9.5 million in bonds to pay for a 33,000-square-foot library addition, a move that would have meant higher taxes.

The owner of a $250,000 home would have had to pay $60 more in the first year, under the new tax increase.

Three years ago, district voters rejected a similar tax increase and in response, the district came up with a less ambitious plan.

The addition, proposed in response to Huntley's huge population increase, would have made the library three times its current size.
