8 injured in fire engine crash
Authorities say a crash that sent a Chicago fire engine into the corner of a building on the city's near North Side injured seven people, including five firefighters.
Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said the engine was responding to a medical emergency at 3:15 p.m. Thursday when it was struck by a compact car at an intersection. Langford said the engine then crashed into a condominium building at the corner of Wells and Division Streets. Langford said the ground floor of the building was unoccupied.
Langford said the five firefighters suffered minor injuries in the crash, and a 55-year-old woman and a 6-year-old girl in the car were also injured. All seven were taken to area hospitals, but Langford said none of the injuries appeared life-threatening.
