Suburban boy dies of undiagnosed heart condition
EVERGREEN PARK _ Friends and family are mourning a 12-year-old boy from suburban Chicago who died of an unsuspected heart condition while playing basketball.
Joseph Lee of Evergreen Park was shooting hoops with friends a local gym Friday when he collapsed after 15 minutes on the court.
Family members say he was taken to a local hospital, where he died of an undiagnosed enlarged heart.
Lee's mother, Betty Lee, is a registered nurse. She says Joseph never complained of the chest pains or shortness of breath that would indicate a heart condition.
Betty Lee says her son had a passion for sports and often played pickup basketball after school. But his dream was to be a professional baseball player.
