Metra trains under severe delays

Authorities say Chicago-area Metra commuter trains are operating under severe delays after signal problems shut down several tracks.

Metra spokesman Michael Gillis says about 20 trains serving the north and west suburbs stalled on their tracks at about 6 p.m. Thursday.

Officials shut the trains down when a power outage disrupted the system's warning signals. Hundreds of passengers were stranded on board for more than an hour.

Gillis says the trains are now running, but are between 20 and 60 minutes behind schedule.

The lines affected are the Milwaukee District North Line and the three Union Pacific lines.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Transit Authority is honoring Metra tickets.
