Man charged in brother, stepdad's deaths

EDWARDSVILLE _ Authorities say a 45-year-old Gillespie man has been charged in the deaths of his brother and stepfather in Madison County.

Douglas L. Jackson was charged Wednesday with six counts of first-degree murder, two counts of armed robbery and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm.

Madison County Circuit Judge Charles Romani Jr. set bond at $1 million.

Police say the bodies of 48-year-old Kelly W. Jackson and 68-year-old John McAfee were found Sunday in their home near the village of Williamson.

Capt. Brad Wells of the sheriff's office says a disagreement between the brothers following their mother's death allegedly sparked the crime.

It's not clear if Jackson has an attorney. There is no telephone listing for him in Gillespie.
