So far, we haven't seen much change
It is often said that you can judge a persons character by those he associates with. I wonder if that holds true with politicians.
Another cliché is that politics make strange bedfellows. Our president elect has just completed a masterful political campaign where he was able to solicit unprecedented support and funds from a variety of sources.
This was not accomplished overnight. He had lofty ambitions since his arrival in Chicago and aliened and ingratiated himself with individuals and groups to fulfill his ambitions. Some of these individuals expressed views not accepted by the majority of the public. A radical pastor, urban terrorist, community groups and political machines all successfully used their influence upon their friends and followers.
The president elect has great oratory skills and utilized them in his campaign. His theme was change, but other than a few generalities he failed to say from what. His post election actions indicate that it surely wasn't the much lamented political insiders as 65 percent of his transition team and early appointments indicate a strong presence of the "beltway bandits."
His support of politicians of questionable competence but strong political machines belies his call for change. His early appointments clearly show it is payback time for political support, and we can anticipate rewards, or if you will remuneration, to those who funded his very expensive campaign.
So much for change.
