Wendy's fire in North Chicago does minimal damage
An early-morning fire at a Wendy's restaurant in North Chicago caused minor damage, firefighters said Monday.
The blaze, which was reported at 6:56 a.m., started in a heating/air-conditioning unit on the roof, said Cmdr. Douglas Henderson. The restaurant at 2211 Green Bay Road was closed when the fire ignited, and no one was injured.
The fire was contained to the rear of the building. Henderson said the Lake County Health Department would need to inspect the damage before the restaurant is allowed to reopen.
Knollwood Park Fire Protection District helped extinguish the fire. The Waukegan and Great Lakes fire departments also assisted by manning fire stations while officials were on the scene.
