Last suspect arrested in Lake Bluff robbery
Lake County Sheriff's police today announced the capture and arrest of Charles Knight, 45, the final suspect in the Dec. 9, 2007 shooting and attempted armed robbery of The Silo restaurant near Lake Bluff.
Two victims were wounded in the botched robbery attempt that was later determined to be an inside job hatched by an employee who told Knight they could make as much as $3,000 by robbing the restaurant.
In a news release today, Sgt. Christopher Thompson said the FBI on Monday learned Knight was in Ft. Wayne, Ind. and set up surveillance. He was arrested without incident.
Knight was housed at Allen County, Ind. jail, where he waived extradition Thursday and was transported to Lake County. He appeared at a bond hearing before Judge Raymond Collins, who set bond at $2 million, according to the release. Knight is set to appear in court Nov. 17.
Knight, an often-convicted felon described as a "brutal thug," was linked to the crime when police found his fingerprint on a glass at The Silo the night of the shooting and attempted robbery.
Edward Jackson, 44, of Chicago, is the employee who admitted to setting up the robbery. Information provided by Jackson indicates Knight fired the shot that injured two restaurant employees.
