Rollover accident snarls traffic on I-55

Police and rescue crews have cleared the scene of a rollover accident on the Stevenson Expressway, about one mile south of Route 30 near Plainfield.

Officials said a red car swerved into a ditch that separates the southbound and northbound lanes before rolling over.

The right, southbound lane of I-55 was blocked by rescue crews until about 7 a.m., officials said.

District 5 state police officials said it remains unclear at this time the number of people injured or the severity of the injuries in the single car accident.

The accident remains under investigation by the state police. Additional details of the crash will be released later.
