Live shows highlight Black Friday in the 'burbs

Black Friday, the day people wake up way too early in order to get some ridiculous deals on merchandise at the big-box stores. Black Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving that folks reunite with one another to stay up way too late and (possibly) drink a ridiculous amount of alcohol.

But on such an important night, you better choose your meeting place, drink special and cover band wisely. Seriously, there are a lot of cover bands out there.

The Foundry

85 Executive Dr., Aurora

You know what you're getting with The Foundry: a large sports bar with big mugs of beer. As with most bars, The Foundry is treating Black Wednesday like a Friday. A normal Friday at The Foundry consists of a cover band, this Friday, I mean Wednesday, you can check out the cover band Spoken Four. Notice the pun? Expect a $5 cover, and don't forget mug specials like $4 Miller Lite, Leinenkugel Honey Weiss for $6.50 and other domestics for $6.25.

Paulie's Pub and Grille

444 N. Eola Road, Aurora

Paulie's is a smaller, somewhat intimate sports bar where you can catch up with friends. In celebration of Black Wednesday, Paulie's will be staying open a whole extra hour until 2 a.m. Expect some acoustic music from Andy Jess live from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Also on special will be Miller Lite/MGD bottles for $3.

Alumni Club

871 E. Algonquin Road, Schaumburg

Alumni Club has the most elaborate Black Wednesday event, to say the least, with a Black and White party. You know the deal - show up in your best black and white attire and rub elbows with the suburbs' finest, drink, dance, make a fool of yourself, etc. Drink specials include $2 Bud and Bud Light, $3 Three Olives Vodka drinks and $4 bombs. If you have your college ID on you, admission is free, if not, the cover will be $5. Your old college ID has to be laying around somewhere.

Durty Nellies

180 N. Smith St., Palatine

For Black Wednesday, Durty Nellies is whipping out one of Chicago's most well-known cover bands with Hairbangers Ball. If perhaps you've missed them at your local bar or street fest, Hairbangers Ball is obviously about hair metal, a genre of music that might be new to most current college students. Unless you count Bon Jovi, and must we do that? Cover is $6 and Bud/Bud Light bottles are $2.50.

North Beach

1211 Butterfield Road, Downers Grove

Not one, but two musical acts will be present at North Beach on Black Wednesday. In the Tiki Music Deck you'll find C-Factor, a rock cover band. Any guesses on what the letter C in C-Factor stands for? Cool? Crazy? Oh wait, it probably stands for 'cover.' Then check out DJ Allen on the main stage. Specials include $3 domestic bottles and $3 Bacardi-flavored bombs. Cover will be anywhere from $5 to $10 depending on how late you show up. Which won't be too late because you're not going to miss C-Factor. Are you?!

Bar Louie

22 E Chicago Ave., Naperville

So let's say you find yourself in downtown Naperville on Black Wednesday and you wouldn't mind doing a little dancing and drinking on the cheap. Well, with Bar Louie you are in luck. Look for a DJ to start around 10 p.m. and enjoy $3 Amstel Light and Heinken Drafts plus $3 Heineken Light bottles. And to sweeten the deal, there will be no cover.

Other happenings:

The Lodge in Lisle will have the Chicago Club Rockers (DJs) present, Shark City in Glendale Heights will have the '80's hair-metal cover band Lounge Puppets, Flip Flops Tiki Bar and Grill in Carol Stream has karaoke and Mullen's in Lisle will have a DJ with an ensuing dance party.
