Police beat
Barrington
• Someone tried to break into a home on the 300 block of North Valley Road Oct. 29 or 30. The burglar broke the lock but failed to pry open a glass patio door and didn't get inside; damage was estimated at $800.
• William B. Mason, 17, 7 Long Meadow Court, Barrington, and Esteban R. Gonzalez, 17, 520 Apache Ave., Carpentersville, were arrested around 7 a.m. Oct. 30 at Barrington High School, 616 W. Main St., and charged with disorderly conduct. Their court date is Dec. 12.
• Burglars smashed the front glass door of a building at 712 S. Northwest Hwy. overnight Nov. 3-4 and stole $600. A damage estimate was not available.
• A home on the 400 block of Park was broken into on an unknown date but reported Nov. 2; a loss estimate was not available.
Inverness
• Vandals broke into a vacant home on the 100 block of Florence Avenue, punching holes in walls and breaking several windows, on an unknown date but reported Oct. 29. A damage estimate was not available.
Palatine
• Burglars broke into a business at 1098 E. Dundee Road between 2 and 3:30 a.m. Nov. 4, by smashing the window on the overhead garage door and then using a ladder to reach several catalytic converters, which they stole along with a laptop computer and $300 cash. A security alarm sounded and the alarm company notified the owner, but no one checked the building until officers arrived.
