Locker graffiti mistaken as threat at Warren Township High

Seemingly ominous graffiti written on some Warren Township High School lockers caused much nervousness for school officials last Friday, but it later turned out to be benign.

The Gurnee Police Department investigated graffiti in the boys locker room at the Almond Road Campus. The graffiti first appeared Nov. 5 and again the following day. The writing warned of having two days left, and then one day left, police said.

School officials believed it to be a vague threat of violence, police said. However, an investigation revealed the graffiti was made by a 17-year-old student who had loaned an item to another student and merely was a reminder for the item to be returned.

The writings were not intended to be a threat and were taken out of context by witnesses, police said. No criminal charges are being sought.

Police also confirmed the incident had no connection to a false bomb threat made last Friday morning at the high school campus, which resulted in the arrest of another 17-year-old Warren student.
