Quincy man charged in fatal fire pleads not guilty

QUINCY _ A Quincy man charged in an apartment fire last month that killed three people has pleaded not guilty.

David Bentz is charged with three counts of first-degree murder and aggravated arson in the deaths of 42-year-old David Jones, 43-year-old Samuel Burton and 55-year-old Linda Wilson.

Authorities say Bentz started a fire in a second-floor apartment he used to share with his wife.

Quincy Police Detective Anjanette Stovall testified during a preliminary hearing Tuesday that Bentz changed his story five times in an interview the night after the fire.

When questioned by Public Defender Ed Downey, Stovall said Bentz mentioned "something about an attorney" but didn't specifically ask for a lawyer so the interview continued.
